How many guys live at the Haven?

We have a capacity for about 18 guys.

How much is Rent per month? What does it cover?

Rent is $500 a month plus utilities. The rent includes some food, a bed, a room, and a desk.

What kind of rules are there in the Haven?

  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Marijuana are not permitted to be used or stored on the property.

  • Pets are not permitted on the property.

  • No Firearms are allowed on or to be stored on the property.

  • Drugs, aside from medicinally prescribed, are not allowed to be stored or used on the property.

When can I apply?

We accept applications year round but our busy season is during winter term.

What are the rooms like?

Each person is given a room with 1 to 3 other guys. Each person is provided a desk and chair and space to store their clothing and each room has wireless access. We also provide a bed and mattress in the sleep loft.

What if I need a quiet place to study?

The Haven actually has a couple of spaces in the house that are for quiet studying, so that residents can always find a productive place to work. We are also right across the street from campus. It is about a 3 minute walk to the school library.

What kind of fun things are there to do?

We have a projector system and plasma tv on the main floor, board games, and a bunch of couches to lounge in. These are free to be used respectfully and in consideration of others. We also do a few fun activities during the week like movie nights and game nights but these are not required and anyone can be invited.

Do the guys have chores in the house?

Yes, every guy helps clean the house a couple times a week, something like 40 minutes to an hour a week. We also have at the end of each term a deep clean day that we schedule together at the beginning of each term.

Is it required for residents in the Haven to go to a Sunday Church service?

It is expected that everyone in the Haven goes to a Chi Alpha Bible Study, which we call Core, and Chi Alpha Fellowship. It is encouraged to go to a Sunday Church service but it is not required.

Are there House Meetings I’m required to attend?

Yes, we have a Haven Meeting every month that has required attendance. We schedule these at the beginning of each term, so that everyone knows ahead of time. There is also an Orientation Day that happens the week before Fall term begins that everyone is expected to attend.

Can I live in the Haven as a Freshmen?

Yes, if you apply for religious exemption at OSU or if you are dual enrolled at Linn-Benton Community College and are taking the majority of your classes there, you are exempt from taking part in the OSU’s First Year Experience.

What is food like in the Haven?

Part of everyone’s rent is put toward shared food, which covers some basic food items like bread, milk, eggs, spices, etc. Also, everyone in the Haven takes part in preparing a dinner once a week for everyone to eat together. This saves time and is a great way to eat well and spend time with each other.
